is a major underlying cause of death, disease
and disability. A sturdy on 'risk factors' by
the WHO (World Health Organization)
suggests that sedentary lifestyle is one of the
10 leading global causes of death and
disability, physical inactivity causes more than
two million deaths each year. Most adults are
simply not active enough to benefit their
health. Sedentary lifestyles increases all
causes of morality. It doubles the risk of
cardio-vascular diseases, diabetes and obesity.
It increases the risks of colonic cancer, high
blood pressure, osteoporosis, depression and
anxiety.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY A SAVIOR

There is no need to panic as
there's a WHO (World Health Organization)
recommended solution, which is both simple and
convenient.
Regular moderate physical activity is one of the
easiest ways to improve and maintain your
health. It potentially prevents and controls
cardio-vascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and
osteoporosis. Physical activity increases your
energy level, helps reduce stress and lowers
unhealthy levels of cholesterol and blood
pressure. It also lowers the risk of colon
cancer. In children and youngsters, it promotes
healthy growth and development. In older adults
it is important for healthy ageing. It helps in
improving and maintaining the quality of life
and independence. In people with disabilities,
daily physical activity helps by improving
mobility and increasing energy levels. It can
also prevent or reduce certain disabilities. In
general, it increase confidence, self-esteem and
feeling of achievement.
How do you define "Physical
activity" :
Physical activity is any body
movement that results in an expenditure of
energy (burning calories)
How much physical activity
is needed? :
The minimum amount of physical
activity required for the prevention of disease
is about 30 minutes of moderate activity
everyday. For the calories conscious, this
translates into about 150 calories per day.
However, one can do without
complicated calorie calculation. One needs to
perform at least half and hour of moderate
physical activity over the course of each day.
For freshers :
If you're new to physical
activity, you can start with a few minutes of
activity each day and gradually increase your
pace, working your way upto 30 minutes.
Note :
Remember that 30 minutes is only
the minimum recommendation (of course, the more
time you spend, the more you gain) Physical
activity is like moving towards health. The most
important thing is to move!
Your goal is to be active for
at least 30 minutes over the course of every
day.
Note :
WHO (World Health Organization) advocates
physical activity to prevent the complications
of a sedentary life.
So, move for HEALTH.
While exercising regularly is definitely a
good habit that leads to longevity and healthy
living. An inner feeling of confidence and a
positive outlook, alongwith a strong and
balanced exterior, make a personality complete
and appealing. |
